A contribution to the exact dating of the death of the byzantine historian Nicetas Choniates

Abstract

The exact dating of the death of Nicetas Choniates bristles with problems, because of the lack of any direct information about the last years of his life.Moreover,the problem becomes even more complex since Nicetas Choniates discontinued his literary activities a few years before his death (1210-1211). There is positive evidence that he lived for several years after he had ceased writing.
