The Influence of Transformational and Transactional Leadership on the Determinants of the Work Environment for Creativity
The objective of this paper was to empirically investigate through an industry survey, the impact of transformational and transactional leadership on the work environment dimensions that support creativity. Results indicate a strong and significant positive relationship between transformational leadership and the 'stimulant' dimensions of the work environment for creativity. The findings also indicate that the work environment factors that impede creativity are not associated with transformational nor with transactional leadership. These find ings confirm the value of transformational leadership in organisations and urge leaders to embark on behaviours that are essential in the process of creating and applying new knowledge.
