dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to review the energy efficiency of the building sector in
Cyprus. The dissertation focused on reviewing and ascertaining the opinions of the
professionals on the field to establish whether the Cyprus government has set satisfactory
regulations and measures. The work commenced with an in-depth review of the energy sources that Cyprus is producing and importing and the nature of the energy is using. The attention then focused
on analyzing the energy market from the initial stage of the energy efficiency development and looked at the market actor’s roles and responsibilities and the targets of the government.
The research then focused on the recent energy efficiency regulations and measures that
have been introduced for the building sector in 2004 and the examination continued on
the degree where the government regulations and measures were investigated. The research enabled the author to establish themes and formulate questions which were then posed to a sample of construction professionals in the form of semi structures interviews and questionnaires.
The main findings of the research conclude that in overall Cyprus has set satisfactory energy efficiency regulations and measures. However, the author believes that the government should take more actions regarding the information of the public about the energy efficiency and its benefits. The research also highlights that the professionals on the field (architects, civil engineers and Mechanical Engineers) are very interested in implementing the Energy Performance Certificate for buildings and they are keen to be part of improving energy efficiency. | en_UK |
