Abstract

This MsC thesis explores European Union's Defence Integration and the possibility of the creation of a European Army as the last stage of this long term process. Through a brief historical review, analyzing several key frameworks such as the CSDP, PESCO, and the Strategic Compass, it evaluates the EU’s political and military initiatives through the years. Additionally, the study examines NATO's role in European Security, external threats (Russia, Middle East, China), and the stance of European states regarding the EU's security autonomy. The thesis concludes that while support for a European Army is constantly growing, institutional, technological, and geopolitical challenges must still be addressed to achieve a full Defence Integration in the European Union.
