Environmental planning must involve, among other things, the regulation and control of land use. In the case of forest environments, forest use and activities such as forest recreation and so on should contain environmental degradation with· in ecologically and socially acceptable limits. Protected areas were established about a century ago as a result of an increasing awareness of environmental degradation and destruction, and the consequent need to protect rare flora and fauna, natural ecosystems, and to provide recreation for this generation as well as for future ones.en_UK
